Do you want to take part in helping to build back Australia’s biodiversity, help threatened species to survive, and help protect nature? Then you may be interested in volunteering with Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) – a nonprofit organisation dedicated to taking action for nature.
Founded in 1982, Conservation Volunteers Australia is a long-established charity with a network of volunteers across the entire country. CVA hosts local conservation volunteering activities, workshops and events in cities across the country, including Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide and Tasmania.
From beach cleanups, tree planting, invasive species’ weeding, building nest boxes for a range of native animals, and gathering data on threatened species – CVA offers something fun and meaningful for everyone to take part in.
Conservation Volunteers Australia’s main projects and programs focus on:
● Biodiversity and threatened species
CVA’s many different projects and programs aim to empower people to take action for nature – making it fun, easy and accessible to get involved in building a more sustainable future, healthier environments and increased wellbeing.

Adopt a Challenge: Fun Conservation Activity for Teens
CVA is calling all volunteers to get involved in their latest conservation activity: Adopt a Challenge. This initiative aims to get Australians involved in taking action on ocean litter.
Over the next 5 years, CVA is committing to activating a community of people to remove 30 tonnes of rubbish from entering the environment.
There are many ways to get involved in Adopting a Challenge:
- Take action at home 💙
Get your household involved in reducing your home’s plastic footprint. Plastic pollution is a major threat to the health of marine ecosystems and our own health too.
Take part in the SeaToSource Plastic Waste Challenge at home using the CVA app.
- Volunteer your time at a cleanup event 🌊
CVA organises beach and river clean-up events across Australia throughout the year. You’re invited to participate in these events – join us in rolling up your sleeves for a cleaner, greener future.
- Take action at your school 💙
Help us beat plastic pollution by being an advocate for change at your school.
Organise a plastic waste audit within your school, identify the biggest sources of plastic litter and stop it before it becomes a problem.
If you’ve never done a waste audit before, then download the CVA app and follow the SeaToSource Plastic Waste Challenge step-by-step instructions.
